What is the difference between entry-level and single-blade Gunpla nippers?

When building a Bandai Gundam or a 30 Minutes Missions model kit, your most important tool is your plastic nipper. Using the wrong tool can permanently damage your parts, bend the colored plastic, or leave ugly white stress scars (known as nub marks) on your finished mobile suit.
  • Standard Dual-Blade Nippers (Best for Starters): If you are just starting your hobby journey with a Pokémon Plamo or an HG Gundam kit, a basic dual-blade entry nipper is excellent. These tools are rugged and durable. Both sides of the jaw are sharp, and they meet in the middle to clip parts out of the runner. However, because they pinch the plastic from both sides, they create high pressure that leaves white stress marks on dark blue or red plastic.
  • Premium Single-Blade Nippers (Best for Clean Builds): For advanced builders working on Real Grade (RG) or Master Grade (MG) kits, single-blade nippers are an absolute game-changer. Only one side of the jaw acts as a razor-sharp blade, while the other side acts as a flat wall (anvil). This clean slicing motion cuts through the plastic gate smoothly without stretching the fibers.
  • Maintenance Warning: Single-blade nippers feature incredibly thin, delicate steel. They should only be used to cut thin plastic gates and should never be used to cut thick clear plastic runners, polycaps, or metal wires, as the blade will chip instantly.
